John Black- Media Director
John Black hails from Nashville, TN, where he enjoys eating hot chicken and not listening to country music. He's worked as the Mission's Media Director for two years now and has enjoyed every swelteringly hot and dusty minute of it. He loves telling stories about the incredible work being done throughout Northwest Haiti and can’t believe he gets to call that his “job.”
Jody Castillo – Director of Haiti Operations
Jody Castillo has served in various capacities at Northwest Haiti Christian Mission for almost her entire life. The daughter of NWHCM founding director Larry Owen, Jody grew up traveling frequently to Haiti. She moved to Haiti full-time in 2002, when she ran a pediatric clinic in St. Louis du Nord. In May of 2009 she planted a new campus in Mole St Nicolas. She also manages our travel department.
As travel coordinator, Jody facilitates flight and transportation arrangements for visitors, and works with other NWHCM staff to coordinate group ministry activities. As field director she works directly with the Haitian and missionary staff as well as oversees the day to day Haiti operations. She earned a B.S. in nursing at the University of Kentucky, where she also met her husband, Jose. They live in Mole Saint-Nicolas, Haiti, with their eight children. Jose Castillo – Technology Director
Jose Castillo serves as the facilities manager of Northwest Haiti Christian Mission’s main campus in Saint-Louis du Nord, and also maintains communications technology for all NWHCM’s Haiti operations. He and his wife, Jody, moved to Haiti full-time in 2002. When not running around northwest Haiti with bags full of computer parts and assorted cables, Jose helps Jody run their home in Saint-Louis du Nord and care for their seven children.
Jose was born in Honduras and moved to the United States when he was 10 years old. He studied computer engineering at Sullivan University in Lexington, Kentucky, and also serves on NWHCM’s board of directors.
John Harvey- Mission Pastor
John (pictured with his wife, Alana) joined us after 23 years of church pastoral ministry. John has served in three different churches as a youth pastor and senior pastor. As our Mission Pastor John oversees staff care and health as well as writing and advocating on behalf of NWHCM. John and Alana live in Port St. Lucie, FL with their three children- Emily, a sophomore at Florida Atlantic University, Zach, a sophomore in high school and Kimberly, a sixth grader.
Stephen and Kelly Jernigan- Missionaries (Saint Louis du Nord Campus)
Stephen and Kelly Jernigan joined NWHCM in 2012. After dozens of mission trips, Stephen and Kelly had planned on working in Africa. After Stephen came to NWHCM in 2011, God moved in powerful ways to orchestrate their move to Haiti. Stephen oversees our Aquaponics program and Kelly is involved in serving and ministering in our prison and brothel ministries. They have a son, Grayson. Stephen and Kelly live in Macdonough,
Georgia when not in Haiti. They are involved in Momentum Church, which has been leading trips into Haiti for several years.
Melonnie Kelly – Missionary
Melonnie Kelly first visited Northwest Haiti Christian Mission in 2002, after which time she began leading short-term teams to the mission multiple times a year. Melonnie joined NWHCM full-time in 2009. She works with visiting groups to help their ministry be as effective as possible, and she also supervises NWHCM’s summer intern staff.
Melonnie is actively involved in the worship and youth ministries at her home church in Ormond Beach, Florida. She divides her time between Haiti and her home in the United States, where she lives with her husband and three children. Click here to view Melonnie’s personal blog.*
Beth Lockwood - Missionary (Mole St Nicholas)
Beth lives in Mole St Nicholas where she serves as the school teacher for the Castillo children. She also teaches ESL, loves on the kids in our orphanage & community, helps with American groups, helps with women's bible study, and recently began a beach ministry. Life motto “ if you don’t step out of the boat…you will never walk on water.”
Beth first vistied NWHCM in 2007 on a mission trip. She joined NWHCM full time in 2009. Before coming to NWHCM she was a swim coach for the Dallas Mustangs where she trained and taught athletes from novice to Olympic Trial qualifiers. Autumn Marshall- Therapy Director, Miriam Center
Autumn first came to Haiti in 2007 and fell in love with the Miriam Center children. She continued to work at finishing occupational therapy school while simultaneously doing all she could to fight for the therapy needs of the children. In 2009 she took on the role as therapy coordinator and spent 3-4 months a year in Haiti and the other months fighting to make the children visible from the states. She moved to Haiti full-time in February, 2013, to further lay the foundation for meeting the therapy needs.
Maureen Moore – Lab and Pharmacy Director
After helping establish the lab at Northwest Haiti Christian Mission’s clinic in 2000, Maureen Moore returned in 2001 as the full-time lab technician. Today she supervises our lab and pharmacy, and the national staff that runs them. She also helps manage the mission’s sizable inventory of surgical supplies.
The daughter of a Royal Dutch Shell employee, Maureen grew up all over the world, spending much of her young life in Africa. She earned her registered technologist certification in Hamilton, Ontario, where she also taught medical laboratory technology at Mohawk College. She divides her time between Saint-Louis du Nord and a home in Bermuda.
Stephanie Mosier- Miriam Center Director
Stephanie Mosier is our Miriam Center Director. She is from Denver, Colorado, where she worked for Denver Public Schools in a severe and fragile classroom. She first stepped foot on the mission almost three years ago, when she came on a short-term trip. The Miriam Center was a fit from the start. When Stephanie got back home, God was really working on her heart and talking to her about the needs of the kids at the Miriam Center. She applied to be a Miriam Center intern with the focus being to start a special needs classroom. She could not be happier with God's plans for her, and nothing brings her greater joy than sharing His love with these precious ones.
Heather Owen – Missionary (Saint-Louis du Nord)
Heather Owen moved to Haiti with her husband, Janeil, in 2001. In addition to her full-time job as a wife and mother, she is a leader in discipling the women among NWHCM’s missionaries in Haiti.
Heather studied business administration and management at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Missouri. She interned at the mission two times before marrying Janeil and joining the mission staff to help manage an orphanage in Port-a-Paix. They moved to Saint-Louis du Nord in 2007 after Janeil became NWHCM’s executive director. They have four beautiful young children, and they're currently traveling around the country as a family, advocating for the many ministries at Northwest Haiti Christian Mission. Magdala Petion Remy- Campus Manager, Saint Louis du Nord
Magdala came from Port-au-Prince in 1994 to serve as a nurse from NWHCM. Prior to that she worked for years in a clinic and pharmacy at Christianville Mission in southern Haiti. Magdala oversees all of our campus staff. Magdala lives in St. Louis du Nord with her husband, Alix and their six children.
Caitlin Smith- Groups Coordinator
Caitlin Smith is serving a long-term internship working with our groups. Caitlin is from Chester, Virginia and graduated from Longwood University in Virginia. She came to the mission on a trip four years ago. Following that trip, she decided she wanted to come to Haiti for longer. She interned with the mission for 3 summers. After graduating from college, Caitlin flet like God was calling her to a longer ministry here in Haiti. Caitlin has a special passion for our prison and brothel ministries.
Junior Veillard- Chief Director
Junior Veillard has worked for the mission for several years. He began working with the travel team before becoming the Haitian Director. He oversees all of the Haiti side operations. Junior is married to Betty and they have two children: Debbie and Julmar.
Mary Beth Winkler – Office Manager
Mary Beth Winkler has worked for NWHCM since 1998 in various capacities. In her current position as Office Manager, she works in the areas of travel, finances, and the sponsorship programs on the St. Louis du Nord campus.
Mary Beth traveled on short-term trips to Haiti multiple times before joining the NWHCM staff. Previously, she worked for the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services. She studied Christian education at Lincoln Christian College in Lincoln, Illinois. Mary Beth lives in Indianapolis, Indiana, and travels frequently to Haiti.
